Arrival at School

Town students are asked to arrive after 8:40 a.m. and 12:35 p.m.  Weather and grounds permitting, all students wait/play outside at the back of the school until the bell rings at 8:40 a.m. and 12:40. For safety reasons, students are not allowed to wait in doorways or hallways.

In inclement weather, students go directly to their classes at 8:30 a.m.

Bus students walk to and from the bus zone through the doors at the back of the school.

Attendance & Absenteeism

Attendance is taken and marked in the register at 8:50 a.m., 12:40 p.m.  and at the beginning of each gym period.

Ste. Anne Elementary School has a call back system in effect according to Division Policy, whereby all students in K-8 will be closely monitored.  Any absences for unknown reasons will be reported to the general office and a call will be placed to parents to determine the reason for the absence.

If a child is sick, he/she is encouraged to stay home to recuperate. Homework will be provided.  As fresh air stimulates the brain and prepares students for learning, all students are expected to go outside at recess and noon hour. In the event, your child must stay indoors, a daily dated note is required for the teacher. If a student becomes ill during the school day, the teacher will refer the student to the office immediately. The secretary will call the parents to pick up their child.

If a student is involved in an accident during the school day, a staff person will assist that student. The school  secretary will contact the parent/guardian. If that person is not available, then the emergency contact person will be called. If the student requires transportation to a medical facility, a staff person will accompany the student and remain until a parent/guardian or emergency contact person arrives.

Change of Bus for Students
Students, needing to change buses or to be dropped off at a different location, must obtain permission from the Seine River School Division Transportation Department. This must be done by the parent phoning the Transportation Supervisor at 422-6222. Please also inform your child’s teacher of change of arrangements. Students without authorization will not be allowed to travel on a different bus.

Classroom Outings
Throughout the school year, students of Ste. Anne Elementary may participate in learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Students may be asked to pay for registration, bussing, etc. Parent volunteers are asked to accompany students as chaperones to enhance the learning and promote positive conduct among our students. Taking part in class activities is every student’s right. The student’s responsibility is to conduct him/her self appropriately at all times.

Students’ dress must reflect consideration and respect of self and others.  Clothing must be in good taste for the public setting of school. In order to create a respectful environment at school, shirts may be sleeveless but may not have spaghetti straps or bared shoulders, shirts and tops must be waist length; dresses, skirts and shorts must be of modest length; undergarments must be completely covered by outer clothing. Hats, caps, toques, headbands and bandannas are not to be worn in the building.

Students are encouraged to dress warmly and are expected to go out for recess.  Our cold weather recess keeps students inside at recess when the wind-chill factor is above -33.

Following the Seine River School Division regulation KLD, “Public Complaints About School Personnel”, all concerns or complaints must first be addressed to the person most directly involved except in situations which are governed by legislation (e.g. Child and Family Services Act). Parents are asked to address the concern to the person against whom he/she is complaining. If satisfaction is not obtained at the level, the complainant should meet with the person in question along with the immediate supervisor in an attempt to resolve the issue. In the event the issue remains unresolved, a meeting with the employer will be arranged.

Computer Use

Ste. Anne Elementary, supported by technology initiatives of Seine River school Division, boasts a lab of 27 new state of the art IBM computers with Windows XP and internet access. Learning will be enhanced through projector facilitated instruction. The lab operates under the Seine River School Division Computer and Network Access Acceptable Use policy. All students who accept responsibility for appropriate computer conduct will sign a contract and will have access to classroom, library and lab computers. The contract outlines responsibilities and range of consequences.

Firedrill Regulations

Ten (10) firedrill evacuations are required through the school year.  Teachers instruct/practice evacuation procedures with their classroom upon school opening in the fall.  It is a serious offense to pull a fire bell without just cause, and in such cases, students will be reported to the authorities and a charge of $100.00 will be levied to cover the cost of responders.
