Our School

Ste. Anne Elementary School is a Kindergarten to Grade 8 English School located in Ste. Anne, Manitoba.

The SAE School draws its population from the village of Ste. Anne and the surrounding rural area. There are approximately 160 students attending our school. 

The school's professional staff includes a principal, librarian, guidance counsellor, and resource teacher. Educational assistants work with the resource teacher and classroom teachers in providing support to students. Ste. Anne Elementary have access to clinicians of Seine River School Division for speech and language, psychological and behavioural support.

Members of the Ste. Anne Elementary School community hold the vision our school provides an environment in which everyone will experience success.

Ste. Anne Elementary shares the building with Ste. Anne Immersion and Ste. Anne Collegiate.

Programs

Ste. Anne Elementary follows the curriculum for the English language program as outlined by Manitoba Education Youth & Citizenship adopting both early year’s and middle year’s philosophies.

Early Years

The Early Years' program is designed to provide and maintain a learning environment that encourages individual growth and recognizes the importance of the development of the whole child: creative, emotional, intellectual, physical, social and moral. These areas are integrated and each forms an important aspect of a child's development.

Middle Years

The Middle Years' Program is designed to provide for the needs of students as they undergo changes in physical, emotional and intellectual development. At Ste. Anne Elementary, we try to expose the students to a variety of courses and experiences in a positive, encouraging, student-centered environment.

The School as a Safe and Secure Place

The staff at Ste. Anne Elementary School believes that positive school discipline is an interactive process involving the students, the school, the home and the entire community.

This section lists behaviour goals which all students are expected to follow, as well as the process which will be undertaken in dealing with inappropriate behaviour.

Behaviour Expectations for all Students

Students demonstrate respect for the school and community. This includes teachers, educational assistants, custodians, classmates and other students, and for school property.

Students conduct themselves in such a manner as to respect each other's life space and the right to learn.

Student Assessment

Student assessment is ongoing throughout the year in order to provide students and their parents with information about how well they are doing in relation to the program outcomes and what they need to do to continue improving.

Formative Evaluation: The purpose of formative assessment shall be to improve instruction and learning. It shall also provide information on student's strengths and/or weakness as well as his/her progress related to curriculum outcomes.

Summative Evaluation: The purpose of summative assessment shall be to provide an opportunity to show the extent to which the student realized the learning outcome(s). It shall also be used to determine student achievement and program effectiveness.

Student-led conferences are held in November and Student-teacher parent dialogue are held in March. A report card is sent home three times a year: November, March, and June.

Awards and Special Recognition

September Character Education Award 

Criteria

October – Participation Award

  Criteria

  • leads in class discussion
  • excellent group leader

  •  regularly volunteers to assist with social, educational, and athletic activities in the school

November - Creative Achievement Award

Criteria

  • most imaginative ideas in art, writing, poetry, or drama
  • foremost in using different artistic techniques
  • leads in organizing artistic projects and activities
  • leads in creative communication

December - Special Recognition Award

Criteria

  • The special recognition award is given to the student who demonstrates the most determination, fortitude, and strength of character at each grade.

January - Academic Excellence

Criteria

  • The academic excellence award is given to the student who achieves the highest academic average between September and January in English Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science.

February - Citizenship Award

Criteria

  • leads in improving school and community life
  •  most consistently demonstrates democratic ideas
  •  leads in demonstrating pride in school and community

March - Music Award

Criteria

  • greatest musical growth
  • best musician
  •  most dedicated musician

April – Growth Award

Criteria

  • This personal improvement award recognizes the student who has demonstrated the most personal and academic growth throughout the year. 

May – Athletics

Criteria 

  • most committed players

  • most selfless team player

  •  most dedicated player at practice and games

  • most consistently demonstrates fair play and sportsmanship

  •  the player who participates in a variety of sports

 June - Year End Awards

In addition to the monthly awards, students in Grades 5-8 are recognized at each reporting period for their academic achievements. Students who acquire an average term mark on all subjects of 80% or above are placed on the Honour Roll and students who acquire an average term mark on all subjects of 90% or above are placed on the Honour Roll with Distinction.

Students who show improvement in their academics from term to term, that are not already on the Honour Roll, will be recognized as being “On-a-roll”.

Annual Awards

At the end of every year, students are honoured at an evening Awards Ceremony in the following categories:

Academic Excellence  

For the Academic Excellence Award, teachers in each class select the student who has acquired the highest academic average over the course of the school year.

  Improvement Award

This award is given to the student in each class who improves and perseveres under difficult conditions. We recognize those students who have put forth their best efforts over the course of the school year.

Citizenship Award

This award is given to a student in each class who demonstrates positive attitude and behavior. Recipients of this award demonstrate respect for others, are trustworthy and cooperative. They are responsible and possess leadership qualities.

Athletics Award  

The recipients of the Athletics Award are students at each grade level who follow the golden rule – Play hard and fair! They demonstrate the following qualities: self-control – cheer at all good plays – they don’t interfere, bully, or take advantage of any player.

Gagnon-Winther General Proficiency Award  

This award is given annually to a student from Grade 8 who has the greatest overall general proficiency. This award is a reminder to all of us of the importance of putting forth best efforts. Two long time staff members at Ste. Anne School first initiated this award.  

 Music Award

Recipients of this award are K-4 students who have demonstrated a positive attitude, interest, participation, and process in music.

Leadership Award

Awarded to the student who received the most house points due to exceptional academic standing and extra-curricular involvement.

Band Award

This award is given to a regional band student who demonstrates interest in the subject and a willingness to achieve musical excellence.

Parent Council Special Recognition Award  

This award is given to one student at K-4 and one student at grade 5-8 who     demonstrates personal growth or achievement in areas not already recognized with other awards.

Attendance Award

            This award is given to all students with perfect attendance for the school year.

Resource Program

The Ste. Anne Elementary School Resource Program is based on the consultative collaboration approach to resource service delivery. Classroom teachers and the school team work together to problem solve for students having academic and/or behavioural difficulties. When there is "failure to match" between the student and the teaching environment, the learning situation needs to adapt and change to fit student need. Often the strategies used become "best practices" for teaching which benefit an entire classroom of students. The resource teacher assists in problem identification and problem solving and provides both classroom teacher and student support throughout this process.

We have a diverse population in our school. Some learners benefit from tactile or "hands-on" learning, others need enrichment activities for challenge. Other students may need personalized learning programs (IEPs) or behaviour plans for success. Resource activities attempt to address this wide range of learning needs. We try not have long-term pull-out programming for the students. The most effective learning environment is that of the "regular" classroom.

Counselling

A school counsellor is concerned with the personal, social, and educational needs of the students. Counselling and guidance provide opportunities for students to explore feelings, examine information, and consider options for problem solving and decision making. The school counsellor works collaboratively with teachers and school personnel, parents, and outside professionals to meet student needs.

Referrals to the counsellor may be made by teachers or other school personnel, parents or students may refer themselves. The counsellor may work with students on an individual basis, in a small group or provide support or guidance programming for classrooms depending on the needs of the students.

Ste. Anne Elementary Patrols

The patrols are very important to Ste. Anne Elementary School. These handy and reliable students go through sleet, snow, rain, bitter wind, UV rays, and everything in between, to protect all of the children.

On duty early in the morning and again at the end of the day these patrols, guard and safely direct children at key locations to make sure all cross safely.

Physical Education Program

Ste. Anne Elementary School contributes to the development of a healthy Manitoba society by offering students the opportunity to participate and learn skills for healthy living. Grades 1-8 participate in a skate program with visits to the local arena. The Grades 5-8 classes have the opportunity to experience cross country skiing, and the Grade 8 classes spend two afternoons curling.

Our programs reinforce fair play, respect, sportsmanship, and cooperation by having a sportsmanship award at each grade level. The intramural program promotes participation for students from Grades 5-8, with events being held at noon hours. Each year a carnival week is held which gives students the opportunity to participate in snowshoeing, cross country skiing, sleigh rides and other events. In June the K-6 students participate in a junior track and field event called Wacky Track.

Students in Grades 7 & 8 have the opportunity to play in many extracurricular activities such as cross country running, volleyball, basketball, badminton, baseball and track and field. The grade 6 students compete in divisional volleyball and basketball tournaments.

Each grade has two hours of P.E. instruction/six day cycle. The classes follow and instruct the outcomes of the recently updates P.E./H.E. curriculum. Curriculum outcomes and skill development in popular sports are monitored and evaluated. With a positive attitude all students are given the chance to excel and increase their athletic abilities.
